A Harford County sheriff's deputy was injured when his patrol car crashed into a tractor trailer in Aberdeen on Monday morning, the Sheriff's Office said.
At approximately 5:15 a.m., Deputy First Class Chris Allen, a 13-year member of the Sheriff's Office assigned to Police Services Bureau, was involved in a crash on Route 40 at the Route 22 spur (200 block of Philadelphia Boulevard) in front of the Wawa, Sheriff's Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said.
According to a media release from Hopkins, Allen was traveling east on Route 40 in a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria marked patrol car when a tractor trailer out of New Jersey allegedly pulled out of Wawa to travel across 40 to make a left and go west.
It was raining heavily at the time, according to the release, and Allen's portion car struck the left rear portion of the trailer.
Allen, who was injured, was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital in Baltimore by the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department ambulance.
As of 8 a.m., Hopkins said, Allen was reported serious condition; however, it is not believed his injures are life threatening.
The Sheriff's Office identified the driver of the tractor trailer as George Lutes, 60, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. He was not injured.
The crash is remains under investigation.
