A retired Taylor police sergeant saved an eight-year-old girl's life after she was pulled unconscious out of a pool, said Taylor Police Cmdr. Don Georgens.
Witnesses said the girl was underwater at a community pool on June 1 at 800 Yellowstone Drive in Taylor about two minutes and appeared to be holding her breath, police said. The girl's mother pulled her out of the water, said police.
Retired Taylor Police Sgt. Roy Jordan, who was attending a separate event at the pool, rushed over and found the child was not breathing and her lips appeared to be blue, according to Taylor police.
Jordan immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and within a few minutes the girl coughed up water and began breathing, police said. Officers were called to the scene at 4:03 p.m. She was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and released on June 2, police said.
The girl's mother said she did not know why her daughter had removed the floats around her arms before going into the pool, said police. The mother was attending a function at the pool and said her daughter had been playing in the pool with a group of friends, police said.
Jordan retired from the Taylor Police Department on April 22, 2012 after 15 years of service, said police.
