A vehicle struck a police cruiser responding to a call Tuesday night in the Gresham neighborhood.

Four people were injured in the South Side's Gresham neighborhood when a vehicle struck a squad car responding to a call Tuesday night, authorities said.

About 9:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling westbound on West 79th Street struck the squad car in an intersection as the squad car traveled northbound on South Racine Avenue, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The squad car, which was traveling with its lights and sirens activated, wound up on its side, Greer said.

Two officers were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle, 34-year-old Kristy Jenkins, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital with minor injuries, Greer said.

Police said Jenkins, who lives in the 7900 block of South Richmond Street, for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to reduce speed, and damage to city property, Greer said.

The crash also involved a third vehicle that had been stopped at a traffic light facing southbound. The vehicle was sideswiped during the crash, and its driver was taken to St. Bernard Hospital with minor injuries, Greer said.
