A Tempe, Ariz., high school student was arrested on suspicion of possessing an improvised explosive device, police said.
Joshua Prater, 18, was taken into custody after a woman cleaning the house in which he resided found what appeared to be a bomb Tuesday and delivered it to a Tempe fire station. Fire fighters notified police, who arrived at the fire station, identified the device as an improvised explosive device and disarmed it, Tempe Police Department spokesman Sgt. Mike Pooley said.
The woman told police materials for bomb-making were in Prater's bedroom, and police searched the home Tuesday evening, Pooley said.
Prater was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct involving weapons and possessing a prohibited weapon, and Marcos De Niza High School, which Slater attends as a senior, was notified, although police did not find any threats to the school, the (Phoenix) Arizona Republic reported Wednesday.
