Video: Orlando Officers on Horseback Nearly Hit

Police say three officers narrowly escaped injured after a suspected drunken driver nearly hit them.

Three Orlando police horses narrowly escaped injury when a car that ran a red light nearly hit them downtown, video shows.

The driver, 22-year-old Joseph Boyer of Longwood, was arrested Sunday about 1:40 a.m. on a charge of driving under the influence after his blood-alcohol level measured more than twice the legal limit, an arrest report shows.

A police officer said he saw a green Honda run a red light at Washington Street and Magnolia Avenue, nearly hitting him and his horse. Two other officers and their horses were behind the first officer.

The car continued west on Washington Street and turned south on Court Avenue even though a portion of the road was blocked by cones and barricades and open only to pedestrians, an arrest report states.

Boyer failed field-sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of .178 on the first measurement and .177 the second time, according to the report.
