A bomb squad combing a Costa Mesa home where police say a man blew himself up in an apparent suicide have found three additional explosive devices inside, authorities said Monday.

Sixteen homes near the 3100 block of Bermuda Drive have been evacuated as multiple agencies --including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Costa Mesa police and the Orange County Fire Authority -- remained on the scene.

Two of the devices, described as crudely made, have been detonated. By 8 a.m., crews were preparing to handle the third.

The incident began Sunday evening, neighbors told KTLA-TV, when a 52-year-old man laid down in his front yard and was unresponsive. An ambulance was called, but the man refused to go to the hospital and went back inside.

About an hour or two later, neighbors told the television station, an explosion occurred. The man was found dead.
