A Joliet motorist is accused of plowing head-on into a police SUV killing a passenger inside the vehicle he was driving while drunk on the West Side Friday night in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

Alex Reyes, of the 3100 block of Nantucket Drive in the southwest suburb, was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI involving death and aggravated DUI involved bodily harm, police said.

He was also cited with multiple traffic violations including driving while his license was suspended and not having insurance, police said.

Killed in the crash was Anthony Camarillo, 18, of Cicero, who was dead on the scene at Harrison Street and Laramie Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Reyes was allegedly traveling at a high rate of peed northbound on Laramie when he crossed the center line and plowed into a Austin district police car head on about 11:20 p.m., police said.

He then continued northbound, hitting a parked car and then a light pole, knocking it over at Laramie and Congress. Camarillo passenger was ejected and died as a result, police said.

When police got the scene they found Reyes in the driver's seat with a broken left leg and a surviving passenger suffered a broken left wrist, police said.

An autopsy Saturday determined Camarillo died of multiple injuries from the automobile collision and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.

Although the medical examiner's office gave Camarillo's address as a nonexistent address in Chicago, court records indicate he lived in the 1300 block of South 56th Court in Cicero, similar to the address given by the medical examiner's office.

The two officers in the SUV were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the two that survived from the other car were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The officers' conditions had stabilized, police said. Reyes and the surviving passenger were listed in serious-to-critical condition.
