The Baltimore County officer had to be extricated from the cruiser that smashed into a tree.

March 07--A Baltimore County police officer was injured after crashing a patrol car into a tree in Catonsville late Wednesday night, according to county police.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to Route 40 near Coleridge Road about 11:55 p.m. for a report of a vehicle colliding with a tree, police and fire officials said.

Upon arrival, they found an officer's patrol car had crashed into a tree and was badly damaged, so much so that the officer driving had to be cut free from the vehicle, officials said.

The officer was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said a fire dispatcher.

More information, including the condition of the injured officer, was not immediately available Thursday morning.
