A driver fleeing from police crashed into two vehicles on the South Side overnight, injuring himself and another motorist, according to police.

Shortly before midnight, police spotted the driver speeding near the intersection of 79th Street and Ashland Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Police tried to pull the 25-year-old man over, but he continued driving with officers in pursuit. After a nearly eight-mile chase, the driver crashed into two vehicles near 45th Street and Pulaski Road.

A woman in one of the other vehicles was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, and the driver was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Alfaro said. Both people were listed in good condition.

The driver was taken into custody but had not been charged as of early Monday morning.
