Tomas Menjivar almost hit a group of Nassau County officers investigating a crash Sunday morning.

A 25-year-old Huntington Station man is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after nearly hitting a group of Nassau County police officers investigating a traffic accident on Hempstead Turnpike Sunday morning, police said.

Tomas Menjivar, 25, of 55 E. Ninth St., was arrested after being pulled over, police said.

First Precinct police officers were investigating an auto accident in the right lane of eastbound Hempstead Turnpike near Merrick Avenue in East Meadow at about 6:20 a.m. when Menjivar's 1997 Dodge was seen driving west on the turnpike "at a high rate of speed," police said.

"Officers were forced to take evasive action to avoid being struck," police said in a Sunday news release. "The Dodge was followed and subsequent stop of the vehicle revealed" that the driver "was operating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage."

No injuries were reported and Menjivar's vehicle was impounded. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Monday.
