Anthony Sist's career is mimicking his father's, right down to his law enforcement badge number.

The Hazle Township man graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in December, about 27 years after his father, Daniel.

The elder Sist presented Anthony with his badge during graduation ceremonies at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg.

"He actually has the same badge number I had. It was reissued," said Daniel, who retired as a state police sergeant from the Hazleton barracks in 2010.

His son was among the 98 graduates. Guest speakers were Gov. Tom Corbett and state police Commissioner Col. Frank Noonan.

"The Pennsylvania State Police is the oldest state force in the nation. It draws from the ranks of everyday citizens, holding fast to the understanding that a free people can only be free where the law is applied equally," Corbett said in his remarks.

During the ceremony, Anthony Sist received the Charles B. Gesford High Pistol Award.

A 2007 graduate of Hazleton Area High School, Anthony received a bachelor of arts degree in history from East Stroudsburg University in 2011.

"Toward the end of college, he started to show interest in law enforcement," said Daniel, who served with the state police for 25 years. He applied to the State Police Academy in Hershey and was accepted as a member of its 134th class. Graduates complete 25 weeks of intensive physical and classroom training.

Family members of graduates who have ties to law enforcement are invited to participate in the graduation ceremony. Anthony knew his dad would present him with his badge but both men were surprised that Anthony received the same badge number.

"I am very, very proud of him. It's a great career and I would do it all over again if I could," Daniel said. "I am just very happy that he has such a great career ahead of him."

Anthony started working this week with Troop M, which is headquartered in Bethlehem. He is stationed in Fogelsville.

He is the son of Nadine Sist, Hazleton.
