Police arrested and then used a Taser on a Wilkes-Barre man Monday night after he refused to remove his shoe laces at the police station, according to a press release.

After responding to a report of a domestic dispute at 74 Academy St., police encountered Robert Melovitz, no age given, who began screaming at the officers and making threats to neighbors.

Police arrested Melovitz after he refused their requests to calm down. At police headquarters, he also refused a police order to remove the laces from his boots, instead clenching his fist and taking a fighting stance, according to police.

The officers advised him to relax or he would be shocked. When he did not, police used a Taser on Melovitz, subduing him.

Police took Melovitz to Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
