Police Officer, Woman Shot in North Carolina

Neither had life-threatening injuries after they were both reportedly shot in the leg.

Jan. 01--A Belmont police officer and a woman were shot late Monday night on Lake Pointe Drive.

The officer was apparently struck in the calf, according to Belmont Police, who are expected to release more details on the circumstances of the shooting overnight.

The injured woman was also struck in the leg, according to news reports

Police officers radioed for paramedics to come to the scene on Lake Pointe Drive, across the Catawba River from Shopton Road West in southwest Charlotte, around 7 p.m., said Lt. T. Adams, with the Gaston Emergency Medical Service.

Adams said paramedics transported two people from the shooting scene to Gastonia Memorial Hospital. Neither had life-threatening injuries and both are expected to recover.
