Two Memphis Police Officers Injured in Crash

Jan. 01--A tow truck hit a police car with two officers inside at a Frayser intersection Monday night, police said.

At 6:34 p.m., two officers were responding to a backup request when a tow truck ran a red light at University and Frayser and hit the MPD cruiser, according to police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph. One officer was trapped in the car and the other was unconscious momentarily.

Both officers, who are stationed at the Old Allen precinct, were transported to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis in noncritical condition.

Rudolph said an investigation into the incident ongoing.
