Two brothers were arrested for fighting with Allentown police during a domestic disturbance early Wednesday, according to court records.
One of the men allegedly wrestled with an officer inside and then outside a home in the 600 block of Union Street around 1 a.m. The officer said that after he handcuffed Xavier Padin-Cortes, 23, he noticed that his gun holster had been unbuckled, according to court records.
Padin-Cortes was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment. His 19-year-old brother, Jorge Santiago, was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Padin-Cortes was arraigned by District Judge Rod Beck and sent to Lehigh County Prison under $10,000 bail. Santiago was sent to prison on $5,000 bail.
According to a criminal complaint:
Allentown police were dispatched at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday to 638 Union St. on a report of a fight in progress. When officers arrived, Santiago was outside and told an officer, "You better have three guys around my brother, or I am going to [expletive] him up."
Santiago tried to rush into the home and had to be held against a wall by an officer.
Inside, a woman was screaming at Padin-Cortes. Police said Padin-Cortes rushed toward Santiago and the officer holding him up against a wall.
Another officer stopped Padin-Cortes and told him to stay back, but Padin-Cortes refused and squared up as if he wanted to fight. He wrestled with the officer and both fell to the floor, with the officer landing on his back.
After the two got up, Padin-Cortes grabbed the officer around the waist to take him down again. The woman began screaming and tried to pull the officer off Padin-Cortes, so she was handcuffed by another officer.
Padin-Cortes was taken outside by police, but he continued to struggle with the officer and they both fell to the ground. Padin-Cortes was eventually handcuffed, and the officer noticed the top snap on his holster was unsecured.
Both brothers were taken to police headquarters and later charged. It was unclear if the woman was charged. Police did not say how she was related to the brothers.
