Chino police officers donned riot helmets to break up a fight between dozens of parents.

CHINO, Calif. -- A large fight broke between dozens of parents Saturday at a Pop Warner football game Saturday at Ayala Park on Saturday afternoon and officers donned riot helmets to deal with the combatants.

"We only had our helmets on for our protection because when you get a call of a fight between two and three hundred people, you want to be protected," said police Sgt. Frank Mena.

No one was seriously injured during the fisticuffs and most of the battling parents ran off as officers made their way into park, Mena said.

Hundreds of people from around he Southland, including Alhambra, Bell Gardens and Huntington Park, were at the park taking part in what apparently was a Pop Warner playoff event, said Mena.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police received several calls reporting hundreds of adults who were watching a game involving players from Alhambra were brawling. The city the other team was from was not immediately clear.

As dozens of officers in riot helmets arrived at the park, the fighting adults ran off, Mena said. No arrests were made and no serious injuries were reported.
