GREENUP, Ky. -- Two Greenup County Sheriff Deputies were injured after being overwhelmed by fumes released from an active clandestine meth lab on Culp Creek Road around midnight Saturday.
Deputies Rick Craft and Cody Fuller were at the residence to serve a warrant on Hubert Dehart, 42, who lived at the home. Dehart barricaded himself in the bathroom of the house, where the meth lab was cooking. He attempt to dispose of the cooking product as deputies gained entry into the bathroom where Dehart was barricaded. He was taken into custody by both deputies and shortly thereafter the deputies were overcome by the fumes that had been released from the hazardous material.
They were transported to the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital emergency room. Craft was treated and released but Fuller was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by officers from the Raceland, Russell, Worthington police departments, the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Little Sandy Volunteer Fire Department and the Greenup County EMS.
Russell Volunteer Fire Department set up a decontamination station at the entrance of OLBH’s emergency room where all affected persons were decontaminated.
Hubert A. Dehart of Culp Creek Road and Pamela S. Dehart, 42, of Ashland were arrested and charged with felony manufacturing, along with several other felony counts.
