A license-tag number and eyewitness accounts led Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detectives to arrest a Brevard County man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old at a Gate Food Post store on the Southside, police said Sunday.

Family and friends of Jordan Davis, who went to Wolfson High School according to his Facebook profile, grieved in disbelief that he was killed when an argument about loud music turned violent.

Michael Dunn, 45, of Satellite Beach turned himself in to Brevard County law enforcement authorities on Saturday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

He was arrested on a Duval County warrant on charges of murder and attempted murder. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigators traveled to Brevard County on Saturday and questioned Dunn at the sheriff's office in that county, said Lt. Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Davis, who was with friends in a sport-utility vehicle, died after a man fired at the vehicle at the Gate store on the corner of Southside Boulevard and Baymeadows Road.

"My heart really goes out to his family," said Ann Dugger, executive director of the Justice Coalition, a group that assists victims of crimes.

One friend of Davis said on a Facebook posting that they had talked about joining the Army together.

Police at the scene Friday said the shooting was preceded by a dispute between a man driving a dark-colored sedan and the occupants of the sport-utility vehicle. Davis was a passenger in the SUV.

The confrontation began over loud music, police said.

After the man in the sedan fired multiple shots at the SUV, he drove off, police said.

Police arrested him the next day in Brevard County, which is about 170 miles away from Jacksonville.

The Brevard County Clerk of Courts website does not show any criminal history for Dunn.
