Nov. 19--Wilkinsburg police are searching for a man who carjacked a teacher who was arriving for work at an elementary school Monday morning.

Lois Clark, 61, was getting out of her van at about 7:45 a.m. in the 500 block of McNair Street, adjacent to Kelly Elementary School, when a man approached and shot her in the head with a Taser.

Clark gave the suspect the keys to her green 2004 Honda Odyssey and he drove away. Her van has a Pennsylvania license plate number ECG-8414 with a Sunoco sticker on the rear lift door.

The suspect is described as black with a medium skin tone, in his mid-40s, about 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds. He was wearing a black knit cap and dark jacket, police said.

Clark said she has been a teacher in the school district for 14 years and teaches music. She was taken to UPMC Shadyside Hospital, where she was treated and released, police Lt. Michele Krempasky said.

"It's just an unfortunate incident. It's sad but it's a sign of our times," Superintendent Archie D. Perrin Jr. said.

The area where the incident occurred is not school district property, he said.

"As a result of the incident, we will try to extend our perimeter for patrolling in the morning before students arrive and at all our sites for that very reason," Perrin said.

Notices will be sent to all employees encouraging them to be vigilant about safety, especially during the holiday season, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wilkinsburg police at 412-244-2919.
