Nov. 18--Bowling Green Police Department Officer Brad Hogue was recovering Saturday after a Nashville man wanted by police in several Tennessee counties ran over Hogue in the Greenwood Mall parking lot Friday night, according to city police.

Police were called to the mall just before 9 p.m. after employees at Hollister California reported a shoplifting incident, said Officer Ronnie Ward, spokesman for the BGPD. Hollister is a clothing store.

Before police arrived, Tysheka L. Davis, 21, reportedly had been inside Hollister distracting employees from the activities of Troy D. Tyson, 21. Davis and Tyson are both from Nashville, Ward said.

Police arrived and said they saw a male and female later identified as Davis and Tyson leave the mall near Chuck E. Cheese. Officers called out for them to stop. Tyson ran toward a white Plymouth, and Davis ran across Scottsville Road to Taco Bell, where police took her into custody, according to an interview and release from Ward.

As Tyson got into his vehicle, Hogue tried to stop him from leaving, Ward said. Tyson threw his car into reverse, hit Officer David Sterner's patrol car, knocked Hogue off his feet and nearly struck another police officer, Ward said. Police said that while Hogue was on the pavement, Tyson drove forward, running over Hogue's left leg and striking another parked car and a sign.

Tyson sped away onto Scottsville Road, ran a red light and hit two other vehicles in front of Kroger, Ward said. The wreck reportedly disabled Tyson's car. A pregnant woman inside one of the two cars that Tyson struck was injured. Police were still investigating the incident Saturday and did not know the woman's condition, Ward said.

After Tyson's car was disabled, he ran from police, who caught him behind Shoe Carnival. Both lanes of Scottsville Road heading out of town toward Interstate 65 were shut down briefly Friday night during the incident, Ward said. Police quickly gathered crime scene information to reopen the busy thoroughfare.

Hogue was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center, where he was treated and released, Ward said. He suffered bruises and abrasions but no broken bones.

Police said they were able to see merchandise in plain view inside Tyson's car but as of Saturday afternoon were working to obtain a search warrant before searching the vehicle, which was impounded.

Police arrested Tyson on four warrants out of Tennessee, Ward said in the release. Tyson is also charged locally with assault second degree on a police officer, fleeing or evading police first degree (motor vehicle), leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief third degree and wanton endangerment first degree on a police officer, according to online Warren County Regional Jail records. He is being held without bond at Warren County Regional Jail.

Davis is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking -- shoplifting. She was being held on a $1,000 bond at the Warren County jail, according to online jail records.

Police anticipate additional charges against Tyson, Ward said.
