A Hanover County woman was charged Wednesday with one count of reckless driving in connection with the death of Virginia State Police Trooper Andrew D. Fox.

Angelica C. Valencia, 27, of Doswell, Va., was driving a 1992 Jeep Cherokee on Oct. 5 when she struck and killed Fox, who was directing Virginia State Fair traffic on Virginia 30 at Theme Park Way in Hanover County, according to a state police news release.

Troopers and several bystanders lifted the SUV off of Fox, and two troopers administered CPR, the release stated. Fox, 27, who was stationed in Pulaski County, was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, where he died.

Fox was wearing a reflective safety vest and was standing with other troopers directing traffic through the intersection, the release stated. There were blinking yellow traffic lights, and troopers were using illuminated baton flashlights.

Valencia and her juvenile passenger were not injured in the crash. The incident is still under investigation, according to the release.
