Nov. 03--MONTCLAIR -- A Rancho Cucamonga mother is scheduled to be in court Monday following an alleged attack on her daughter which authorities say was an attempt to kill the 8-year-old, Montclair Police Department officials said.
Stephanie Irene Aguilar, a respiratory therapist, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Halloween afternoon after she reportedly slammed her GMC Yukon into the back of a tractor trailer on the westbound lanes of the 10 freeway near Mills Avenue, according to a police press release.
Witnesses first called 911 to report the crash, but then quickly relayed to dispatchers that the mother, later identified as Aguilar, had begun attacking the injured 8-year-old by punching the child and then slamming her head into the center console of the sport utility vehicle, according to reports.
Passing motorists stopped and kept Aguilar from further harming the child until a California Highway Patrol officer arrived at the scene. The agitated woman then began attacking the officer injuring the the officer's arms, Montclair Police officials said.
The girl, who suffered injuries to her face and leg and a possible broken wrist, was taken to hospital. Aguilar was also taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center as a precaution. She was released the following day and arrested, records indicate.
A motive for the attack has not been released.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Montclair Police Department at 909-621-4771. Aguilar was booked into West Valley Detention Center and is being held on $1 million bail.
