Oct. 20--ARGILLITE -- A Greenup County sheriff's deputy was injured when he was hit by a car while working an accident Thursday night.

Matthew Smith, 49, of Greenup, was admitted to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following the incident with what Kentucky State Police described as serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the KSP, Smith and a tow truck driver, Lloyd Caudill, 43, of Greenup, had responded to an injury accident on Ky. 207 at Argillite about 8:25 p.m. Thursday.

Smith had closed down the northbound lane of the roadway and he and Caudill were positioned between Smith's cruiser and Caudill's wrecker when they were struck by a southbound 2005 Ford Focus driven by Christina D. Nethercutt, 43, of Argillite.

Caudill was treated at the scene and Nethercutt was not injured. Alcohol doesn't appear to have been a factor in the accident, the KSP said.

Additional details of the accident were not being released, the KSP said.

The incident remains under investigation by Sgt. Erik Kouns.
