Oct. 06--A West Lawn man was injured Friday night when he jumped in front of a train, Spring Township police said this morning.

Officers said Nevin Walls, 31, of the 2200 block of Penn Avenue had been badgering customers in a convenience store parking lot and was being chased by police when he ran on the tracks.

They found him lying on railroad tracks in the same block after getting hit by a westbound train. They said he was seen climbing an embankment to the tracks, throwing his hands up while facing the train and then jumping towards it.

Walls was taken to Reading Hospital by ambulance, police said. Hospital officials said Saturday morning that Wall was not listed as a patient and police were not sure whether he had been transferred to another hospital.

Information on his condition was not available.

According to police:

Officers were called to the block about 11:40 p.m. on reports of a man standing in the middle of Penn Avenue screaming.

When they arrived, they saw Walls run across Woodside Avenue wearing only boxer shorts. They said he started screaming at customers in a convenience store parking lot. He then got into the passenger seat of a car occupied by a woman and a child who didn't know him and yelled for the woman to drive out of the lot.

Officers tried to remove Walls from the car as he attempted to crawl into the driver's seat but he managed to escape and ran up to the railroad tracks.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
