Oct. 07--A man wanted on a warrant tried to run away from officers Saturday, but a police dog sniffed him out before he could get away.
Gabriel Solis, 26, was underneath the deck of a residence in the 1600 block of Hays Street when he surrendered, police said. He was arrested on the outstanding warrant, and also will be charged with possessing a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer and possession of burglary tools, police said.
A San Leandro Police officer saw Solis driving a white Toyota Tercel in the area of Washington Avenue near Parrot Street and pulled him over because of the warrant, police said. When the officer tried to stop him, Solis allegedly accelerated and led the officer on a half-block pursuit. The vehicle later was determined to be stolen out of Oakland, police said.
Solis pulled into a parking lot and fled the vehicle on foot, police said. After police set up a perimeter, the police dog tracked the area and found Solis under the deck. Solis then crawled out from underneath the deck and arrested without incident, police said.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to call 510-577-3238.
