Oct. 06--Two Gastonia police officers were involved in a fatal shooting Friday night that left one man dead.

The officers responded to a domestic violence call on E. Ninth Avenue in Gastonia around 9 p.m. One victim was allegedly choked and the other slapped, then both were assaulted with hedge shears, according to police reports.

When police arrived at the scene, they were confronted by Kenneth Glaze, 50, in the backyard of the home and an altercation ensued.

According to police reports, during a struggle for one of the officers' handguns, shots were fired, killing Glaze. Paramedics pronounced Glaze dead on the scene.

The Gastonia Police Department Office of Professional Standards is now conducting an administrative investigation. Both officers, assigned to the Central District, have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
