Sept. 25--City police Saturday arrested a man on charges he broke into a northeast Roanoke house, then fought officers after they arrived at the scene, authorities said.

Aisha Johnson, police spokeswoman, said police arrested William Odell Looney Jr., 41, of Roanoke, after they found him inside the house of an acquaintance. Johnson said a woman dialed 911 while hiding inside the house.

"Dispatchers relayed this information to responding officers in addition to information that the caller had disconnected the call," Johnson wrote in a statement.

When police ordered Looney to place his hands on his head, he instead turned and attacked several officers, Johnson said.

Authorities charged Looney with four felony assault on a police officer charges and one count of obstruction of justice. Johnson said a subsequent investigation showed the incident was domestic in nature, and that Looney and the woman had argued earlier that evening.
