A man was arrested in downtown Palo Alto early Sunday morning after he allegedly grabbed and pushed an officer who was trying to break up a fight, a police sergeant said.
Police were called to The Patio, 412 Emerson St., at about 12:52 a.m. on a report of a fight involving several people, said Sgt. Ken Kratt of the Palo Alto Police Department.
As police attempted to break up the fracas, Juan E. Guzman Barrera, 21, of Redwood City, grabbed an officer by the chest and pushed him, Kratt said.
Kratt said Guzman Barrera was subsequently arrested on suspicion of using violence to deter a police officer from performing his duties, a felony.
He was also arrested on suspicion of the following misdemeanors: public drunkenness, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.
The officer scraped his right knee while arresting Guzman Barrera, Kratt said. The suspect suffered a cut on his nose and a scrape on his forehead, but it wasn't immediately clear whether the injuries were sustained during the fight or his arrest.
No one else was arrested in connection with the fight, Kratt said.
