Sept. 11--Georgetown County deputies on Monday arrested a Murrells Inlet woman who led police on a chase from Pawleys Island, to Georgetown and back to Pawleys Island before getting out of her car, and drinking from a bottle of tequila.
Sandra D. Cook, 40, of Covey Point Court in Murrells Inlet was charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driver under suspension, reckless driving and open container. She was being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.
According to a press release from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted to pull Cook over for driving 88 miles per hour on Highway 17 in Pawleys Island, where the posted speed is 45 miles per hour.
Cook did not stop her vehicle, according to police, and led deputies on a chase from Pawleys Island south into the city limits of Georgetown then back to the Pawleys Island area of Georgetown County.
Police placed stop sticks just north of the Waccamaw River Bridge and the vehicle stopped just north of the traffic light at Martin Luther King Road and Highway 17.
Police said Cook got out of the vehicle and began walking away from deputies while drinking a bottle of tequila, but was quickly taken into custody.
