Fleeing Suspect Climbs Tree in Calif., Police Wait

Authorities on Monday night chased a suspect who fled from them and ended up in a tree in Santa Cruz.

Sept. 11--SANTA CRUZ -- Authorities on Monday night chased a suspect who fled from them and ended up in a tree near Cayuga Street and Hiawatha Avenue.

About 7 p.m., police tried to stop the man in a car. He bailed out near Hiawatha Avenue and Cayuga Street and climbed a tree to try to escape, according to dispatches.

Authorities surrounded him and tried to capture him about 9 p.m. Police have decided to wait until the man comes down from the tree.

No more information was immediately available.
