Officers shot and killed a knife-wielding man early this morning after the man allegedly rushed at them with his weapon, police said.

Three plain clothes officers responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of Wyoming Ave. and D Street in North Philadelphia shortly after midnight. On arrival, they spotted Michael Berry, 39, stabbing a 33-year-old Hispanic man who was seated in a parked car, said Lt. Raymond Evers.

The officers announced themselves and Berry turned his attention to them. Berry, raising his bloodied knife, lunged at the officers. One of the officers fired striking Berry several times in the torso, Evers said.

Berry was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. by a medic. The stabbing victim was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was in critical condition with wounds to his neck and chest.
