Mass. Officer Killed by Dump Truck at Work Site

According to local television WWLP 22News, Officer Jose Torres, a 27-year veteran of the police department was working at a construction detail on Pontoosic Road in Westfield when he was struck and mortally wounded. The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m. and he was pronounced dead at about 10 a.m. at the Baystate Medical Center.

The cause of the incident was not immediately released, according to the news report, and the Massachusetts State Police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are both investigating.

According to information from the police department, Torres was assigned to the patrol division and leaves behind a wife and two sons.
