July 24--CLARKSVILLE -- A Jeffersonville man was arrested after police say he was driving drunk, resisted arrest and spit blood on an officer.
Kyle A. Lyons, 27, was arrested for various felony and misdemeanor offenses after a Clarksville Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 31 North near Stansifer Avenue on Thursday. Lyons was driving erratically, speeding and passed an officer's vehicle, according to a CPD report.
After an officer stopped Lyons' vehicle, he said in the report he smelled alcohol on Lyons, who became belligerent upon being stopped and told police it wasn't him who was driving erratically, according to the report. After Lyons was told his car would be towed because of expired plates, he reportedly "became very irate, cursing and screaming as well as putting his finger in officers' faces."
He then went into a "rage" when he was told he was being arrested for disorderly conduct, according to the report. While officers attempted to take Lyons into custody he pulled himself away and threw a punch at an officer. Lyons was taken to the ground, but kicked an officer twice in the groin, according to the report.
Police called EMS to the scene once they noticed a cut on Lyons' chin. In the meantime, an officer checked on Lyons' status and he reportedly spat blood on the officer's face. During the arrest, Lyons also told an officer he was going to kill him when he got out of jail.
Lyons faces preliminary charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, a class D felony; battery by bodily fluid, a class D felony; the class A misdemeanors of resisting law enforcement and intimidation to a law enforcement officer; and the class B misdemeanors of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was not given a field sobriety test nor a Breathalyzer test because of his combative nature, according to the report.
Lyons was taken to Clark Memorial Hospital for treatment on the cut and then to Clark County Jail. No official charges are listed for him in online court records.
