Colo. Motorcycle Officer Killed in On-Duty Crash

A Colorado Springs (Colo.) police officer was killed Tuesday afternoon after his police-issued motorcycle collided with an SUV while he was on duty.


A Colorado Springs (Colo.) police officer was killed Tuesday afternoon after his police-issued motorcycle collided with an SUV while he was on duty.

According to local television station KRDO News Channel 13, the officer who died is Matt Tyner, a member of the force since 1999. Details of the crash had not been released by late Tuesday and its cause is not known.

Tyner served as a patrol officer with Colorado Springs Police Department and as a Neighborhood Resource Officer as well as a Training Academy Instructor. He later became part of the Specialized Enforcement Division/Motorcycle Unit, according to the police department.

Before joining the Colorado Springs Department more than a dozen years ago, he had worked at the Kansas City Police Department.for six years.
