Motorcycle Officer Killed in Hawaii During Training

A Honolulu motorcycle police officer was killed during escort training on Monday morning.

A Honolulu motorcycle police officer was killed during escort training on Monday morning.

According to local television station, KITV 4 News, Traffic Division Officer Chad Morimoto, 39, of Salt Lake was taking part in training near Mililani District Park when his motorcycle slid out from under him and hit a curb.

The officer was taken to Pali Momi medical center with critical injuries. He later died at the hospital according to the television station.

Morimoto had been a member of the Honolulu Police Department since 2004 and worked as a patrol officer in District 6 Waikiki. In 2010, he was assigned to the Traffic Division as a solo motorcycle officer.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

He was the third Honolulu officer killed in a traffic related incident in the past year. He leave a wife and two children.
