SAN DIEGO --
Holiday traffic was made a little slower for some on the Fourth of July by a naked woman walking on Interstate 805.
According to witnesses, at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, an unidentified female driver was involved in a car crash on northbound I-805 just south of the 47th Street exit in National City. The African-American woman got out of her car and took her clothes off for no apparent reason, witnesses told 10News.
Cellphone video given to 10News showed the woman walking down the fast lane and then into the No. 2 lane.
"We saw somebody in the road and they looked naked. That's when I broke out the cellphone camera," said the 10News viewer who shot the video. "That is not something you see every day -- a woman walking in the fast lane, completely naked."
The video showed several cars swerving onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the woman. It also showed an off-duty police officer on the shoulder, waving his badge and trying to direct traffic to protect the woman.
A California Highway Patrol officer was able to get the woman into his cruiser and take her to nearby Paradise Valley Hospital, where she received a mental evaluation.
No injuries were reported.
