June 27--Bodie, the Sacramento police dog shot during a police chase last month, is recovering from jaw surgery.

Police spokeswoman Michele Gigante said the three-hour surgery Tuesday afternoon at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center went well.

Surgeons installed a metal cleat in the German shepherd's jaw.

Bone marrow also was taken from Bodie's shoulder and packed into the broken jaw to aid in bone regeneration, Gigante said.

The dog is expected to be hospitalized for at least another day.

Bodie was shot twice through his left jaw and once in his paw. His medical bills have been offset by numerous donations, which totaled $20,000 as of May 26.
