June 26--HALFMOON -- State Police clocked an Averill Park man driving 103 mph through a Northway work zone Thursday morning, and arrested him in Troy after he crashed his vehicle and tried to flee.

Ryan K. Spiak, 31, whipped through a work zone on a section of the Northway near Clifton Park, and knocked over several traffic cones with his 2010 Chevrolet Traverse while under the influence of drugs, State Police said. State Troopers at the site began to pursue Spiak southbound, but ended the chase as he entered Troy on Alternate Route 7, police said.

"The Troy Police Department was aware of the pursuit and shortly after entering the city of Troy, Spiak crashed his vehicle and fled the scene," State Police said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. State Police from Clifton Park arrested Spiak shortly after he crashed, police said. There were no injuries to the road crew.

Spiak was charged with first degree reckless endangerment, a felony, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, possession of a hypodermic needle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of drugs, all misdemeanors, State Police said. He was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court before Judge Kevin Tollisen and taken to the Saratoga County jail on $20,000 bail. Spiak is scheduled to reappear in Town Court at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
