June 15--Three separate crashes in Egg Harbor Township occurred over the course of 11 minutes Wednesday -- including one involving a responding police officer -- causing traffic delays and two injuries, police said.
At about 3:10 p.m., a 2001 Chrysler Minivan operated by Belen Juarez, of Philadelphia, was struck by a 1995 Chevy as it was traveling west on Doughty Road at the intersection of Fire Road. The Chevy, which was operated by Julio Jimenez, of Pleasantville, was traveling south on Fire Road when he entered the intersection. Both drivers suffered injuries and were transported to AtlantiCare Mainland Campus. The crash is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 609-927-5200.
Officer Jeffrey Lancaster was traveling north on Fire Road at about 3:18 p.m., responding to the first accident, when his vehicle was struck by a 1999 Mercedes 320 that was traveling west on Washington Avenue. The Mercedes, operated by Aqeel Rasheed, 58, of Camden, then struck a 1992 Mazda which was stopped in traffic on southbound Fire Road. Police say Lancaster had his emergency lights and siren activated at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported at the scene of the crash. The third crash occurred at about 3:21 p.m. on Hingston Avenue. A 2004 Ford F-150 operated by Dennis Meighan, 56, of Galloway, was traveling north on Hingston Avenue when it struck a 2012 Kia stopped at the red light that was operated by Lynda Dammann, 34, of Egg Harbor Township. The impact pushed the Kia into the rear of a 2009 Mazda, operated Martin Garcia, 46, of Pleasantville, and then into the rear of another vehicle that did not remain at the scene. None of the vehicle occupants were transported to the hospital for treatment. Meighan was issued a summons for careless driving.
Police say the accident scenes were all cleared within an hour.
