Jeffrey McCoy, 32, of Oklahoma City, a probation and parole officer with the Department of Corrections, was killed Friday while paying a visit to an individual under pre-release supervision.
Police have identified the accused shooter as Lester Kinchion, 21, of Midwest City, who is being held at Midwest City jail.
During McCoy's visit, a confrontation ensued with Kinchion, who lives at the home but is not the person McCoy came to see, Assistant Chief Sid Porter reported at a news conference Friday.

MIDWEST CITY -- One man is dead after a fight in a neighborhood near Midwest City High School ended Friday when one man shot another in the head, police said.
The suspect also fired a gun at Midwest City officers when they arrived at the scene in the 1400 block of Maple Drive, causing a brief standoff Assistant Chief Sid Porter said.
Bryan Vanassche, who witnessed the shooting, said he was in his driveway when a man who had a collapsible baton, handcuffs and a gun approached his neighbor's house.
"He knocked on the door across the street and a young man answered," Vanassche said. "The kid pushes him off the porch. It turned into some kind of fight."
Vanassche said the fight spilled into the street, and he yelled at the two men to stop fighting. He turned around, and then he heard a gunshot. He looked back to the see the man who had approached the house across the street lying in his driveway with blood gushing from his head.
Vanassche said it appeared that the shooter wrestled the gun away from the other man before firing.
"The kid who has the pistol fires like six or so more times into the air and then runs off," he said.
Vanassche said the victim was not wearing a law enforcement uniform. Porter said the victim, who was dead at the scene, was not a Midwest City police officer, and police haven't determined if he is affiliated with any other law enforcement group.
When police arrived, the suspect came to the door and fired at them, Porter said. Police set up a perimeter and called in the special tactics team. Before they could arrive, the suspect came outside again. Police used a stun gun on the suspect when he refused to follow their orders.
He was arrested, Porter said.
