NEWMARKET, N.H. -- Over 200 heads bowed in prayer Sunday evening, as a community came together to honor and remember those seriously injured in the Greenland shootings last week.
Four officers were wounded and the life of Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney was cut short.
Newmarket's own officer Scott Kukesh, 33, remains in the intensive care unit of Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he and Rochester Detective Jeremiah Murphy, 34, are in stable condition and recovering from their gun shot wounds.
Greg Turner, 32, of the Dover Police Department was wounded, treated and released the night of the shooting, as was University of New Hampshire Police officer Eric Kulberg, 31.
Kukesh was held in the thoughts, prayers and hearts of the community he serves daily as they joined together at the Newmarket Community Church with more than a dozen police departments from the Seacoast and surrounding towns represented.
Newmarket Police Chief Kevin Cyr said he spoke to Kukesh earlier in the day, who told him he was proud to be a Newmarket police officer.
"The police family is a tight knit one," Cyr said, adding how the camaraderie from that family helps them each to face circumstances like the ones they're currently dealing with.
