An Arapahoe County jail named after disgraced former sheriff Patrick Sullivan will get a new name in the wake of his meth-for-sex conviction.
Tuesday morning, the Arapahoe County Commissioners voted unanimously to change the name of the Patrick J. Sullivan Detention Center back to its original name. The new name will be the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.
Workers have already removed the sign on the building Tuesday morning.
Sullivan remains imprisoned in the jail that bore his name until the end of the month. He pleaded guilty to felony possession of drugs and solicitation of a prostitute.
It was a high "fall from grace" -- as a sentencing judge put it -- for Sullivan, who served 18 years as Arapahoe County's top lawman until he retired in 2002.
Sullivan was named Sheriff of the Year in 2001 by the National Sheriffs' Association and also served on former President Bill Clinton's National Commission on Crime Prevention and Control in 1995.
