A Lake County corrections officer was killed and three others were injured Tuesday night after they were struck by a vehicle while jogging following their shifts.
Corrections Officer Britney Muex, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident that occurred around 7 p.m. at 93rd Avenue and Main Street in Crown Point, according to The Northwest Indiana Times.
The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma as the result of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident, a spokesman for the Lake County coroner's office told the newspaper.
The three other officers were transported to area hospitals and one was later airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis.
The dark-colored SUV that struck the officers fled the scene and police are checking surveillance footage from the area as they search for the driver, Sheriff John Buncich said.
