W.Va. Sergeant Killed in Pursuit of Suspect

Sgt. Michael Todd May of the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department died early this morning while pursuing a hit-and-run suspect.

Sgt. Michael Todd May of the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department in West Virginia died early this morning while pursuing a hit-and-run suspect just inside Pennsylvania state lines, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The pursuit ended sometime after 1 a.m., when the suspect, who appeared intoxicated, crashed into the sergeant's car on Interstate 79 in Perry, Greene County, the Pennsylvania State Police reported in a press release. 

May, 41, was a 10-year veteran of his department and was pronounced dead at Ruby Memorial Hospital in West Virginia.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of homicide by vehicle.
