Indiana Officer Shot During Confrontation

A Muncie police officer was shot in a confrontation with a suspect near the Ball State University campus Friday afternoon.

MUNCIE, Ind.

A Muncie police officer was shot in a confrontation with a suspect near the Ball State University campus Friday afternoon.

Officers were serving a felony warrant near University Avenue and Dill Street about 2 p.m. when the suspect opened fire, police said.

One officer was struck. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. His condition was not known Friday afternoon.

"At no time was there a threat to the university community," Tony Proudfoot, Ball State spokeman, said in a statement.
