Feb. 01--The driver involved in a Monday crash with a St. Paul police squad car is in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said today.
Lidia Pavitova, 28, of River Falls, Wis., is at Regions Hospital. Officer Jennifer Mink, who has been with the department since October 2009, did not have serious injuries, said Howie Padilla, St. Paul police spokesman. She was treated at Regions and was released, he said.
Mink was heading to assist another officer with a traffic stop when the accident happened about 4:40 p.m. at Grand Avenue and Ayd Mill Road, Padilla said.
The squad car's emergency lights and sirens were activated, police said. Mink was eastbound on Grand and Pavitova was turning west from the Ayd Mill exit when the crash occurred, Padilla said. Asked how fast the cars were traveling, Padilla said he wouldn't discus details of the accident while the police are investigating.
Mink has no record of disciplinary action with the police department, Padilla said.
