DENVER --
Denver police said a Walgreens robber wrestled away an off-duty officer's gun and used it to steal a getaway car on Thursday afternoon.
A shot was fired into the pharmacy ceiling as the robber and the female officer grappled over the gun, but no one was hurt, said Denver police spokesman Lt. Matt Murray.
Police were searching for two robbers on Thursday evening.
The confrontation happened about 4 p.m. at the Walgreens at 18550 Green Valley Ranch Blvd., police said.
Murray said the off-duty officer was going up to the pharmacy to fill a prescription when she saw two robbers jump the counter.
The officer drew her gun and jumped the counter, he said. But a robber began wrestling with the officer and her gun fired.
The robber armed with the officer's gun ran across Green Valley Ranch Boulevard, where he stole a motorist's car outside a Grease Monkey, Murray said.
Police were looking for the armed robber in the stolen car and a second robber, who apparently drove off in a vehicle the robbers arrived in, Murray said.
