Ky. Deputy Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash

Troopers say the collision occurred Monday after a driver of an SUV apparently lost control and crossed the center line before striking the Pike County Deputy James I. Thacker's cruiser.

A Pike County deputy was killed in a three vehicle crash on Monday night, according to WSAZ-TV.

Deputy James I. Thacker, 53, was on duty while he was heading towards Elkhorn City when the collision occurred around 9 p.m. on U.S. 460.

Troopers told the news station that the incident occurred after a driver of an SUV apparently lost control and crossed the centerline before striking the deputy's cruiser. The SUV then struck a second vehicle.

Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene.

A person in one of the other vehicles was transported to Pikesville Medical Center but there was no update on their condition.

The crash is currently being investigated.
