Puerto Rico Police Officer Fatally Shot

A Puerto Rico police officer was shot and killed Wednesday morning after responding to a robbery in progress at a gas station.

Officer Francis Crespo Mandry, 55, was wounded after two suspects opened fire at the Patillas Merlic Service Station, according to Primera Hora.

One of the suspects was wounded by police and was taken into custody.

Gov. Luis Fortuno declared three days of mourning to honor the 24-year police veteran.

This marks the second officer killed in the line of duty for Puerto Rico so far this year. On New Year's Day, Sgt. Berrocales Abimael Castro was fatally shot during a traffic stop
