Police in Indianapolis said someone broke into an unmarked police car and stole two handguns and other police equipment.

Sgt. David Durant said his car's right rear-door window was smashed about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday while he was inside a business downtown.

According to a police report, the stolen items included a military-style bag containing a 40-caliber handgun with three magazines, a flashlight, a police badge, handcuffs and a protective vest.

Officials said a gym bag containing a 9 mm pistol, a holster, a police identification card and another police badge were also taken.
